About Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute: Prof. Madam J.Curie inaugurated the hospital on 2 January 1950. It was named after Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das, in the acknowledgment of the donation of his land and property for the hospital. Initially a Cancer treatment centre, it gradually expanded its activities with the help from government funding organizations. This led to the founding of the Chittaranjan National Cancer Research Centre (CNCRC), in 1957, it was committed to basic research on cancer.
