About Assam Rifles: Currently, there are 46 battalions of the Assam Rifles, under the control of the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs. They perform many roles – the provision of internal security under the control of the army and border security operations, provision of aid to the civil in times of emergency, and the arrangements of communications, medical assistance and provide education in remote areas. They can also be used as a combat force, in times of war, to secure rear areas if needed. It guards the India-Myanmar border according to the “one border one force” policy of Indian government.
